SAN CANDIDO AND SURROUNDINGS IN SUMMER

This is what you can do:

  • a great number of easy family hikes or mountain hikes for sportive people
  • climb up the via ferrata or make a climbing tour in the Sesto Dolomites Mountains
  • make bicycle tours at all levels of difficulty, for example the classic "San Candido - Lienz", which means biking with the family - with your own bikes or rented bikes - along the cycle path and along the Drava river “down” to the Austrian town of Lienz (passing the Schengen border between Italy and Austria), with a comfortable return to San Candido by train and eventually the bike transfer included, also by train
  • make walks or opt of itineraries for families, some also suitable for strollers, or "themed" walks
  • having fun with the whole family using the Funbob summer toboggan run at the very near Mount Baranci / Haunold (you can reach the mountain by cable cars included in the toboggan run price. The Valley Station is reachable on foot from our Houses)
  • make guided mountain bike tours for example on the path for connoisseurs Stoneman, or even other bike tours alone
  • make relaxing trips within the Area the 3 Zinnen Dolomites / 3 Cime Dolomiti / 3 Peaks Dolomites using cable cars to/from Monte Baranci / Haunold, Mount Elmo / Helm and to/from Croda Rossa / Rotwand, followed by a stop in one of the numerous Alpine Huts and Restaurants (see below)
  • a must for lovers of the beautiful landscape and nature is finally a visit to the Lake Braies / Lago di Braies / Pragser Wildsee, which has been the scenery for the famous Italian TV film series "Un passo dal cielo", broadcasted on RAI - the Italian National TV. Also plenty of other lakes can be visited, such as the Dobbiaco / Toblacher See lake or the lake Anterselva / Antholzer See
  • play Mini golf, tennis, make horseback riding or swim in the indoor swimming pool of San Candido, with a discounted entrance ticket granted for our guests
  • make simply a walk to the nearby center, the nice pedestrian area of San Candido and shop in one of our small shops, or drink a coffee or aperitivo or eat in one of our nice bars, Gasthaus and restaurants
  • simply sit on a bench in front of the house or somewhere in the center of the village – and do nothing. This is what we Italians call "il dolce far niente"!

Thrills and spills in the majestic
Three Peaks mountains

The cable cars in 3 Zinnen Dolomites take you up to the five most popular mountains: Monte Elmo, Stiergarten, Croda Rossa, Monte Baranci and Comelico (Col d'la Tenda), all of which offer hikers, bikers and families plenty of exciting attractions.

The mountains for excursions
  • THE FAMILY-ADVENTURE-MOUNTAIN: BARANCI
Baranci is the popular mountain for family excursions. The 4-seater chair lift is situated 3 minutes from San Candido village centre and takes you quickly up to an altitude of 1,500 m. Flowering meadows and lush green pastures provide a wonderful playground for young and old: There are waiting highlights like the new world of the giant, the children’s highlight adventure trail, a tubing run and the fun bob. The mountain station is the starting point for many easy and medium hikes through spruce forests and up to the Baranci summit with stunning views of the Three Peaks.
  • STIERGARTEN – The mountain of alpine pastures
Normally the great views come only at the end of a tour, but Orto del Toro gives you an early reward with a view of the Sesto sundial and the Three Peaks. The mountain is a wonderful starting point for lots of hikes and bike tours to the Sesto mountain pastures and over the Carnic Alpine ridgeway.
  • MONTE ELMO – the mountain with views
There’s nowhere else in the area which offers you such a far-ranging view as Monte Elmo! And the visitor experience is enhanced by Olperl's Mountain World, the Kinderalm, and a variety of walking and hiking trails from which you can marvel at the sunrise or sunset.
  • CRODA ROSSA – the Dolomite experience
The Dolomites are almost close enough to touch from Croda Rossa. This is a location where there were military emplacements in the First World War, and you can immerse yourself in history here, scale the most famous via ferratas in the Alps and visit the smallest and only reindeer herd in the Alps.
